On our recent Disney World vacation we made a reservation for the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast at the Trattoria al Forno restaurant. This is the second time we have done this character dining experience so we thought we would give the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast a review and share experiences of the restaurant, food and characters from the Little Mermaid and Tangled.

What is the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast?
The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is a character dining experience. You will get to meet characters from the Little Mermaid and Tangled. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan you will use 1 table credit per person for the meal otherwise it is a fixed price of $44.00 per person plus tax and gratuity (at the time of writing).
Unlike most of the character dining experiences at Disney World this one is not a buffet style all you can eat offering. There is a set menu to choose from which we will go into more detail below along with which options we chose.
Also, If you are on the dining plan you can have one alcoholic drink per adult included as part of your meal.
The breakfast runs from 7.30am until 12.05pm.
The Restaurant – Trattoria al Forno
The restaurant itself is located on Disney’s Boardwalk so it is in a good location to get to Epcot (which is a short walk) or Hollywood Studios after your meal (you can take a boat, a 15 minute walk or take the Skyliner from Epcot). On both occasions when we have dined here we have planned our fast passes for the late morning at Hollywood Studios and it worked out really well.
The restaurant is an Italian themed restaurant so this doesn’t quite match with the characters that appear but we have never found this an issue. Don’t expect a similar experience to Be Our Guest or Cinderella’s Royal Table where the characters fit the setting perfectly as this isn’t a signature dining experience so the lack of theming is the compromise here.
It is a nice restaurant though with plenty of room and it also has some outside seating but I think that is used later on in the day when it reverts back to it’s normal menu without characters.
Getting to Trattoria al Forno
The boardwalk take a little bit of thought to get to early in the morning when travelling from a Disney Resort using Disney Transportation but on both times we have never found it stressful. Do make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get there though. We took a bus from Animal Kingdom Lodge (where we were staying) to Hollywood Studios and then took a friendship boat to the boardwalk. We arrived with plenty of time to spare so we had some time to look around the Boardwalk first before checking in.
On this visit the restaurant was extremely busy and we waited 15 minutes for our table once we had checked in. The waiting area next to the front desk did fill up pretty quickly and there wasn’t a lot of seating so we did have to stand and wait until we called for our table.
It does seem to be an extremely popular dining experience so if you would like to try it, make sure to make your reservation as early as possible.
The Bon Voyage Breakfast Characters
During your meal each character will be announced to the guests with a fanfare before they make their way around each table for photos and autographs. We were visited by them in the following order:
Flynn Rider (Tangled)
Rapunzel (Tangled)
Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid)
You can read more about some of our favorite Disney Character Meals here.
Character Interactions
Each of the characters interact differently with you as you would expect. Flynn Rider is fun and strikes some fun poses with the kids. Rapunzel talked to us quite a bit before taking photos and Prince Eric was a very straight laced and polite in a very royal way.
The best character though was Ariel who quizzed our son on what he had been doing this morning to which he replied “I had a shower, cleaned my teeth, got dressed and walked down some stairs” to which a whole funny conversation started about walking down stairs and it was so funny the pair of them going back and forth.
The interaction with Ariel really made the meal a memorable one and is something we still talk about now. These funny little moments can really make a vacation and this one put us all in a really good mood.
Service
The cast members on the front desk when we checked in were so polite and funny too. I was asked if we were a party of four adults to which my reply yes “yes four Disney adults” and the cast member laughed and commented with how our 10 year old son and 11 year old daughter our only adults when it comes to Disney Dining and tickets. It was nice to get some acknowledgement from a cast member that how Disney prices these things does seem a little strange to some.
Once seated at our table we were looked after very well by our server Patsy with plenty of coffee and juice being constantly provided (we didn’t run out the entire meal). This was great as I need my coffee fix in the morning! Overall the service was really good and up to the high standards you would expect at Disney World and we had no complaints at all as we were looked after very well. The service was very good.

Our Food Choices
You start your meal with a variety of pastries served on a small frying pan (as used by Rapunzel in Tangled). The selection is varied and we really enjoyed them, so much so that we were given a second pan of pastries.
I chose the Royale Breakfast because to have steak for breakfast is a real treat for me. The dish is really enjoyable and the combination of the steak, crispy onions and asparagus works really well. I also found the dish very filling and it certainly set me up for the day.
Our son Dom had the Pancakes with Bacon. He can be a little picky with food and enjoys quite plain meal options although he is trying more things now. He really enjoyed it though and the portion size was good.
Note – our children were 10 and 11 during this last visit so are classed as adults when it comes to dining at Disney World and they ate from the adult menus throughout all of our vacation.
Claire and Beth both had the Swimmer’s Delight. Beth chose this as she loves smoked salmon and Claire went with it too as she liked the idea of the combination of salmon, spinach, goats cheese and mushrooms. Both of them really enjoyed the meal and it looked really tasty. This might be the meal I pick the next time we visit.
Both Claire and myself also had a Peach Bellini each (we were on vacation after all!) which we both enjoyed and the prosecco seemed to us to be of really good quality. I would definitely recommend you try one.
The coffee and orange juice was your standard Disney fare but it was fine. As I mentioned before, we never ran out of coffee or juice which is always good, especially first thing in the morning when you need your coffee fix.

Was the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast worth the Second Visit?
Having first had this dining experience back in 2018 we were actually quite eager to experience it again. Although now our kids are a little older and they aren’t quite as excited about meeting characters as they used to be, we all agreed that it was the breakfast menu options that made us want to return. The food is to a really high standard and great value for a table service credit and I would put the food very close in quality to what we have enjoyed at Cinderella’s Royal Table.
It was definitely worth a second visit and we would definitely consider doing at again when we go back to Disney World.
Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Summary
This is probably my favorite breakfast at Disney World that I have experienced so far. The quality of the dishes are to a very high standard and separates this character dining experience from the others we usually do. If you have younger children that really do enjoy the characters then the combination of them with the quality of the food makes the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast one to strongly consider for your Disney World vacation.
Even with older kids you will still really enjoy the food and the drinks too. The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is a great way to start the day at Disney World.
