1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Snow White was the very first Disney princess. Snow White is a beautiful and kind young woman who charms everyone she meets, except her evil stepmother. Her stepmother is repeatedly reminded that Snow White is the fairest woman of all, which threatens her.

Snow White runs away to escape her stepmother and meets the seven dwarves, who take her in and keep her safe. Her stepmother disguises herself to find and poison Snow White, leaving her in a coma until her true love, the prince, comes along to save her with a kiss.

The first Disney princess film is an absolute classic that allowed the Walt Disney company to make many more animated films.

2. Cinderella (1950)

Cinderella lives as a servant to her stepmother and two stepsisters, who treat her terribly. Her only companions are her sweet mice friends in her small attic room. When a fairy godmother appears to transform Cinderella’s rags into a beautiful gown so that she can attend a ball to meet the prince, Cinderella’s world changes.

Before she is transformed into her usual self when the clock strikes midnight, she runs away from the ball and leaves behind a glass slipper. After a kingdom-wide search to find the owner of the glass slipper, Prince Charming and Cinderella marry and live happily ever after.

3. Sleeping Beauty (1959)

Disney princess Aurora is cursed by the evil fairy, Maleficent, on the day of her birth. To save her from the curse, three good fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, whisk her away to the forest where they raise her as their own and protect her.

Despite the attempts to keep her safe, Aurora pricks her finger on her spinning wheel and is plunged into a deep sleep thanks to the curse. The fairies seek out Prince Phillip and help him save Aurora and wake her with a kiss of true love.

4. The Little Mermaid (1989)

The first underwater Disney princess is Ariel, a beautiful mermaid and daughter of King Triton. She is intrigued by the world of humans above the water as she collects intriguing everyday items that they drop into the water.

Despite her father’s attempts to keep her safely underwater, Ariel makes a deal with a sea witch, Ursula, to trade her fins for feet. Ariel meets and falls in love with Prince Eric on land. With the help of her father, she defeats Ursula and is given a chance to live above water with her prince.

5. Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Belle and the Beast

Belle is the devoted daughter of an inventor who loves nothing more than spending an afternoon reading a book. When her father disappears, Belle sets off to find him. She finds him trapped in a castle with a gruff beast and his unique household staff.

Despite the Beast’s scary appearance and personality, Belle finds herself falling in love with the softer side of him. She learns that he is a prince who was put under a spell many years before. When Belle kisses him, he is transformed back into the handsome, prince that he was and they live happily ever after in his castle.

6. Aladdin (1992)

Aladdin is a tricky street urchin who is always pilfering things he finds on the busy streets. When he finds a magic lamp containing a genie who can grant him any wish, he wishes to be transformed into a prince he can charm Princess Jasmine, the sultan’s daughter.

Aladdin and Princess Jasmine go on a wild adventure with their animal companion, Abu, a sweet monkey, and the genie. They battle and defeat the evil Jafar, trapping him in the magic lamp, and go on wild adventures throughout the city.

7. The Return of Jafar (1994)

In this sequel to Aladdin, Jafar has recently escaped from the magic lamp he was trapped in. He is back and more committed than ever to wreak havoc on the lives of Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, and the genie.

Aladdin and his friends must take on Jafar once more and save the kingdom from his evil clutches.

8. Pocahontas (1995)

Pocahontas is the beautiful daughter of a Native American village chief of the Powhatan tribe. She is kind and a lover of all nature and animals.

Based on the true story of how Pocahontas met and saved John Smith, the movie chronicles their relationship and how they changed history by blending their cultures and celebrating their differences.

Facing a new reality, Cinderella is devastated. With the help of Gus and Jaq, she must try to find out whether the spell can be reversed and true love can win out.

21. Tangled (2010)

When Flynn Rider, a mischievous town thief, hides out in a tower, he is shocked to find that it is inhabited by the beautiful Rapunzel and her 70 feet of golden hair.

Rapunzel has been trapped in her tower her whole life, so she knows nothing of the outside world. When ensues is plenty of fun as Flynn and Rapunzel go off on an adventurous journey together.

22. Brave (2012)

Disney Princess Merida is a spunky Scottish princess who lives by her own set of rules, much to the chagrin of her traditional royal parents.

Her wish to be free of the expectations placed upon her is granted when she has a chance encounter with a mystical wise woman in the village. Merida’s bravery is tested repeatedly as she tries to undo the curse and discover herself.

23. Wreck It Ralph (2012)

Wreck It Ralph is not your traditional Disney princess movie. The main character instead of a official Disney princess is Ralph, a video game villain who wants to become a hero instead.

As he ventures through video game land on his quest to become the hero he knows he can be, Ralph encounters Vanellope Von Schweetz the kart race from the Sugar Rush arcade game.

As this fun movie reaches it conclusion we discover that Vanellope is in fact a princess and her memories have been hidden away by King Candy. This makes Vanellope the first Pixar princess and adds her to our list of official Disney princesses.

24. Tangled: Before Ever After (2012)

Rapuzel is in love with Eugene, but wants to wait to get married in this short film that follows the original Tangled movie.

Much to the dismay of her father, Rapunzel and her friend Cassandra take off on an adventure. On their adventure, Rapunzel’s long hair grows back and she is forced to embrace it once and for all.

25. Frozen (2013)

When Queen Elsa turns her entire kingdom of Arendelle to ice, she runs away to an ice castle where she can’t hurt anyone. Her sister Anna and some friends go on a hilarious adventure to find Elsa and save Arendelle.

26. Maleficent (2014)

In this live-action glimpse into another side of the Sleeping Beauty story, we learn all about the evil fairy Maleficent.

She places a curse on baby Aurora, but realizes the error of her ways as Princess Aurora begins to grow. As she uncovers the good in Aurora, we see there is much more to Maleficent than meets the eye.

27. Cinderella (2015)

This version of Cinderella is a retelling of the famous story of Ella who ends up living with her evil stepmother and stepsisters after her father passes away.

She meets the prince by chance one night and her whole world is changed, but only for the night. Committed to finding her and marrying her, the prince searches the kingdom until he finds Cinderella.

28. Moana (2016)

Moana is always drawn to the water despite her father’s attempts to keep her from it.

When food and resources get scarce in her village, Moana takes off on an adventure to explore the sea with the help of demigod, Maui, and save her village from famine. Moana is one of the newest Disney Princesses to appear in a Walt Disney movie and at the Disney parks.

29. Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Following the trend of the other Disney princess movies that have been retold in live action, we meet quirky Belle once more.

We follow her on her journey to find her father and watch her fall in love with the Beast and break the evil spell, revealing the true face of the prince she has come to love.

30. Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)

In this sequel, Ralph teams up with Vanellope to save her video game, Sugar Rush.

31. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)

Set years following the original movie, this sequel digs deeper into the inner workings of Maleficent’s complicated relationship with Aurora.
