14 Tips For Collecting Autographs at Disney World

So, here we go! Here are our 14 tips for getting a collection of autographs at Disney World during your next vacation. These are the lesson my family have learned over the years when filling up autograph books with our children.

1. You Can Buy A Disney World Autograph Book Before Your Vacation

If you don’t want to pay park prices for autograph books you can buy them before your vacation. There is a lot of different designs to choose from on Amazon where you will find Disney World autograph books with characters featured and some with some really nice designs. You can let your children pick their own or you might even be choosing for yourself.

You can use this link to check out the Autograph Books on Amazon.

2. We Take a Set of Colored Sharpies with Us

We take a set of sharpies with us in our backpack wherever we go at Disney World. We keep them in a Disney pencil case and have loads of different colors. Having different colors really makes the autographs stand out and look different on each page. It also gives the children something to think about if you are waiting in line.

You can find Sharpie sets on Amazon right here and Disney pencil cases here too. You can click the image above and below too.

3. Keep Them in Your Park Backpack

Keep your Disney World autograph book (or books) in your backpack that you take to the parks so that you always have them with you. You never know when you might need them at it can be very annoying if you miss the chance to add an autograph that you have never had before.

4. Have Disney World Autograph Book the Right Way Up When You Meet a Character

Make sure you have the book the right way up so that when the character takes the book to sign that they haven’t got it upside down. A lot of the time a cast member will probably take the autograph book prior to the character but it can still end up the wrong way. Keep an eye on it and don’t be afraid to tell the cast member or character if needed.

It’s not the end of the world to have a page signed upside down but it can happen especially if you are getting signatures during a character meal so just be aware.

5. Some Characters Don’t Sign Autograph Books at Disney World

Do be aware that some character won’t sign autographs at all such as Kylo Ren, Chewbacca and Baymax. If you have an autograph book and a cast member sees it, they will normally make you aware pretty quickly. The patrolling Storm Troopers at Hollywood Studios are too busy looking for members of resistance for autographs too so don’t try with them either.

6. Book Some Character Meals at Disney World to Get Autographs

We have said many times that Character Meals are a great opportunity to meet a lot of characters and they can save you from spending time lining up in the Disney Parks. Obviously, this means they can be great for adding autographs to you books too.

Every vacation we usually book to dine at Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary and Tusker House in Animal Kingdom too. To find out which characters you can meet whilst dining at Disney World take a look at our Character Meal article here (or click the image below) which has a detailed list.

7. You Don’t Have to Have a Autograph Book to Get Autographs at Disney World

You don’t have to have a Disney World autograph book to get signatures from the Disney Characters. You could have a poster, a shirt or even a backpack (we’ve seen some YouTubers do this in the past). As long as it can be signed fairly easily by the Disney Characters you should be fine.

8. Have Your Autograph Book Ready Before You Meet a Character

Make sure you have your autograph book ready before you meet the character as you don’t want to forget to get your autograph or for the character to miss that you want a signature. Have your book and pen ready before you get to the end of the line for your turn to meet the character or before they come to your table if you are in a restaurant.

9.  Don’t Forget to Interact with the Disney Characters when Getting Autographs

It’s not all about getting autographs (it might be for some children; it can get really serious) so make sure you do have fun and interact with all the characters that you meet during your Disney Vacation. The Interaction can make for some special vacation memories that you will never forget.

10. You Can Meet A Lot of Characters at Epcot

At Epcot you can meet a lot of characters in a day. From the character meets in Future World to all the character stop that you find around World Showcase. Make sure that you have your autograph books when you go to Epcot (keep them in you park backpack).

You can find more details about the character meets at World Showcase here.

11. Be Prepared for an Impromptu Character Meet

Keeps your eyes peeled when in the Disney World Parks as you might catch a character that is about to start meeting park guest and you could be first in line. You will also sometimes find characters pop in all kinds of places in the parks so do keep an eye open for them.

We met Wendy Darling from Peter Pan at the end of a very long and fun day at Magic Kingdom a few years back. It was late in the evening and we saw her to the side of Main Square Theater as we were about to leave the park and there were only a few people standing in line (we haven’t seen her to meet since).

12. Don’t Think Autograph Hunting at Disney World Will be a One Vacation Pursuit

If you have younger children don’t think that autograph collecting will be a one vacation deal. Our kids take a new autograph book on each vacation and usually fill it up. Each time we think perhaps this year they won’t want to do it but they do and along with pin trading it can become a big part of the vacation for them.

13. Autographs at Disney World are Great Souvenirs

Autographs are great keepsakes and souvenirs to look back at when you get home from your vacation. We often dig ours out and take a look back at which characters we met and talk about where we were and other things that happened during your vacation. They can be great to show to family members to especially if you have photos to share as well.

14. Disney World Autograph Books are Great Gifts

Giving an autograph book to someone that is going to Disney World can be a great gift. Our kids have been lucky enough to receive personalized autograph books a few years ago and it was a really nice gift and gesture that meant a lot. If you know someone going to Disney World, then autograph books might be a really nice gift idea to consider.
