So are Magic Bands Waterproof?
Yes all Disney magic bands are waterproof. So you can wear them whilst swimming in the water parks or at your resort hotel pool. Water rides in the theme parks such as Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom or the Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom won’t do any water damage to you magic bands through water exposure.
Where Could a Magic Band Get Wet at Disney World during Your Vacation?
Whilst wearing magic bands at Walt Disney World resort they could get wet due to.
- Wet weather
- Whilst riding water rides in the Disney theme parks.
- Swimming at your Disney resort pool.
- At the Disney World water parks.
Can I Swim With my Magic Band?
Yes you can swim with your magic band on. Disney magicbands are completely waterproof so no harm will come them whilst having some pool time or enjoying some water slides at the water parks during your Disney World vacation.
Do Magic Bands Fall Off Easily?
Magic Bands do not normally fall off very easily. However on one occasion we did lose a magic band whilst at Blizzard Beach. This was whilst riding the Toboggan Racers water slides and my wife lost her magic band.
She noticed it was missing shortly after getting off the water slide at the popular water park. We returned to the bottom of the slides but unfortunately we couldn’t find it.
Lost Magic Bands whilst Swimming
If the same happens to you and you do lose a magic band swimming then you will normally find that the Cast Members will advise you to visit lost property a the water park.
Where is Lost Property at the Water Parks?
Lost property will be found at guest services at both water parks. Guest services at both parks are located at the front of each Disney water park.
You might have to check back a few times and even check before you leave the water park to see if your missing magic band has been handed in.
I must state however having visited Disney World and the Disney water parks many times over the years, this has only happened the once to my family.
Can You Shower With a Magic Band On?
Yes of course you can shower and bath in your Disney resort hotel room whilst wearing your magic bands. As stated they are fully waterproof and will be fine submerged in water.
Hot water won’t affect them either so it doesn’t matter how hot you like your shower or bath when you get back to your Disney resort hotel room after a long day enjoying all that Walt Disney World has to offer.
What are Magic Bands Made Of?
Magic bands are made of flexible plastic to allow for the adjustable functionality to fit wrists of all different adult sizes. There is also an outer plastic rim that can be removed to make them smaller to fit younger children.
There is also a puck in the middle of the magic band that contains a small RFID chip. This allows the Disney magicbands to transmit short range and long range distances to communicate to the Disney computer network to access all the features of your Disney vacation.
What Does the RFID Chip in a Magic Band Do?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification – this refers to a wireless system consisting of two components: Tags (your magic band) and readers (park entry readers, lightning lane readers etc).
The RFID chip allows you to use your Magic Band for:
- Entry to the Disney parks (your park ticket is linked to your band).
- Lightning lane reservations (booked through Genie Plus and the My Disney Experience account).
- Access to your Disney hotel room (by tapping your band on the door lock).
- Linking your credit card to your magic band to make payments across Walt Disney World Resort (shops, Disney theme parks, Disney Springs, restaurants – basically everywhere).
Do Magic Bands Get Dirty?
Yes Disney magicbands can get a bit grubby overtime especially if you have used them over multiple Disney vacations. Depending on the color and the design it is possible for them to get a little dirty.
They are more likely to get dirty when used by younger children when at the theme parks.
How to Clean Magic Bands
Magic bands are easy to clean if they do get dirty. If needed you can even clean them in your hotel room during your vacation. Just follow these easy steps:
- Use a microfiber cloth to wipe away any dust.
- Fill a bowl with warm water and a small amount of dish soap.
- Submerge the magic band for about five minutes.
- Dry with a paper cloth.
- If the wristband holes are still dirty, clean with a q-tip.
How Long Do Disney MagicBands Last?
Official advice from the Walt Disney Company is that your magic band will have a battery life of around approximately 2 years. It has been reported that they can last a lot longer but at some point the battery will run out and the RFID chip will stop transmitting.
