Whats the Difference Between Memory Maker and PhotoPass at Disney World?
Let’s clear up some confusion with Memory Maker and PhotoPass first.
PhotoPass is simply the system that Disney uses to take your photos across Walt Disney World Resort on rides, character meals and special locations (basically any photo taken on property).
All Disney World guests can use the PhotoPass system whether staying off-site or at one of the Disney World Resorts.
PhotoPass is the system Disney uses to take photos and Memory Maker is your personal digital photo package.
The PhotoPass system can do lots of things including:
- Having photos taken in the parks, including Magic Shots where Disney will place characters in your photo.
- Capture photos from the runDisney events (by linking your participant number)
- Allow you to buy personalized products such as mugs, cards, phone cards etc.
What Does the Disney World Memory Maker Include?
- Unlimited digital downloads of all your Disney PhotoPass photos and videos
- Select Attraction photos and videos
- Select Character dining photos
- Discounts on prints of your photos
- Magic Shots – featuring Disney Characters and more, added to your photos
- Digital borders and stickers to personalise your photos
How Much Does the Disney World Memory Maker Cost?
Memory Maker is currently included with all Adult Disney Ultimate tickets.
There are two price tiers there is a discounted price if you purchase at least 3 days before your trip which is $169, or you can buy it at the full price during (and even after your trip) which is $199.
There is also a 1 day package for $69. This can be useful if you are taking a short trip to Disney World.
We normally get Memory Maker included as part of our vacation package so do check with your travel agent or Disney before you think about buying it.
If you do not have Memory Maker included in your Disney World vacation package you can find out more here on the Disney World Website.
How Long Can You Use the Disney World Memory Maker For?
You can use Memory Maker for 30 days and once you have had a photo taken during your vacation it is available to download for 45 days.
Linking Memory Maker to Your My Disney Experience App
Memory Maker links to your My Disney Experience account and the Disney World smartphone app. This means when you have a photo taken it will automatically be uploaded to your account and you will be able to view your photos online or on the app. This is really useful during your vacation as at the end of each day you can take a look on the app at the photos that have been taken.
How Many Photos are Included in the Package?
The number of photos that you choose to have taken is unlimited, so go wild! Get as many photos as possible of your family.
How Memory Maker Works
Throughout Disney World you will find PhotoPass photographers who will take your Memory Maker photos as various locations. Once you have had your photo taken the photographer will scan your magic band with a portable device which will allocate the photo to your account. Within a few hours the photo will be uploaded to your My Disney Experience account and you will also be able to see it on the Disney World smartphone app too.
You can also link all your family (or vacation party members) to your account so that you can share your photos with everyone you are on vacation with.
Attractions That Offer Memory Maker Ride Photos
On rides where your photo is taken you will find an area of screens after you leave a ride. Underneath the screen which has your photo on it you will see a Mickey Ears scanner and when you scan that with your magic band it will upload the image to your account. Do note though that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Slinky Dog Dash will capture your photo automatically if you are wearing your magic band.
Below is a list of the rides that offer photos that can be included in your Memory Maker package.

Is Memory Maker at Disney World Worth It?
I certainly think Memory Maker is worth it if you will be spending a week or more at Disney World. You will get to have many different photos taken which are great to look back on after your vacation. If you have a special event booked like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, then you will get even more value from the package as a lot of photos are taken during and after the makeover. The same can be said for the shows and restaurants that are listed above.
Our Favorite Disney World Memory Maker Photos
Let’s take a look at some of our favorite Memory Maker photo opportunities that we have enjoyed at Disney World over the years.
Cinderella Castle
I’ll start with an obvious one but a firm favorite. There probably isn’t a more iconic photo opportunity at Disney World than in front of Cinderella Castle. We always have our photo taken high up Main Street USA away from the Hub as you then get the Castle nicely in the photo. We especially love this photo at night.
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
With Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, you get a video package setting the scene before slow motion footage of you in the elevator is shown. This is always fun to watch, and this is one that once you know where the camera is you can really strike a pose.
Cinderella’s Royal Table
Before you make your way up to the Restaurant at Cinderella’s Royal Table you are greeted by Cinderella and get to have a really nice photo taken with her in the Grand Hall inside the castle. A really nice photo for the whole family in a lovely location.
You can find our favorite Disney World Character Meals here.
Chewbacca
We love Star Wars (me especially) and Chewbacca is such a fun photo. You get photos taken of him giving you a big Wookie hug and then the photo proper. He might want you to roar or just throw his big arms around you and he is a lot of fun putting some great memories into the photos when you look back at them after your vacation.
Mickey Mouse
Any photo with Mickey Mouse is a special. The first time our children met him in Town Square Theater at Magic Kingdom it was very early in the morning on our very first day at Magic kingdom. It was a special moment as it always is when you first get to meet Mickey during your Disney World Vacation.
To find out more about Meeting Characters at Disney World take a look at our article here.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
On Seven Dwarfs Mine Train cameras automatically capture you image and film you on the ride which is automatically linked to your Magic Band. You end up with some fun photos and a nice video with some fun clips and a nice intro added too.
Expedition Everest
We love the photos taken on Expedition Everest because it is easy to pose for the camera. The camera is located as you make the big drop just after seeing the projection of the Yeti ripping up the tracks so you exactly when to get ready. We have had a lot of fun over the years making silly poses on this ride, I even pretended to be asleep once which amused other riders when we got off to scan our magic bands.
What is Disney Memory Maker – Final Thoughts
Memory Maker can be a great addition to a vacation package as you can get as many photos as you wish and download them all when you get back home. If you can get it included with your vacation package then even better. Get loads of photos and have lots of memories to look back on and share with your family.
