Disney Half Day Tickets – Can You Buy Them for Disney World in 2024?

(Last Updated On: December 13, 2023)

A common question that often puzzles people planning a Florida Vacation is if Half Day Disney World Tickets are available? Previously Disney Half Day Tickets were not available but that changed in 2019. Mid-Day Magic Tickets offered a half day Disney World ticket option that hasn’t been available before for those planning a Florida Vacation.

Can You Buy Half Day Disney World Tickets?

With Disney World still operating a Park Reservation System, Mid-Day Magic Tickets are not currently being offered. Previously offered in 2019 half day tickets were available at Disney World but only for 2,3 or 4 day periods.

Will Mid-Day Magic Tickets Offers Return in 2023?

1/2 day Disney tickets may very well make a return to Disney World. However before Disney offer them again current capacity restrictions will have to be lifted. My opinion is that if they are to be offered again it won’t be until sometime in 2024 at the earliest. I may be proved wrong but I do not see half day ticket offers being made available in 2022.

Were the Prices the same for all Dates?

Unfortunately prices vary depending on which dates you are looking to book for. Busier and peak times of the Disney World Calendar year will cost more.

Our advice is to check Mid-Day Magic Ticket prices on the official Disney World website, here’s a link that will take you straight there.

What about Park Hopping?

If you wish to park hop with the Mid-Day Magic half day tickets then you will have to add this on an as an extra. A Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus option is available as an add on but you will be looking at increased costs. Again it may be worth checking on the Disney World Website or giving them a call to work out exact costs.

Who are these Half Day Disney World Tickets for?

These tickets seem to be aimed at people who have limited time in their Florida vacation to plan for full days at Disney World. They may also be aimed at people staying off site who may not want to be up early to get to the Disney World Parks for rope drop or early in the day.

My guess would be that Disney have analysed the data of people coming into the parks and there must be a significant number of people that come into the parks during the afternoon for a short number of days.

With price increases for Disney Admission prices the extra option may encourage more guests into the parks. But are they worth it?

Are Mid-Day Magic Tickets Worth the Price?

There is a significant saving to use these parks if you are planning to visit later on in the day. But in my opinion I would rather go for a full day park hopper ticket allowing full access to all that Disney World has to offer. For a more casual visitors (not our family who want the full Disney World experience) this may be a cost worthy option where saving some money against the full ticket price is worth it.

What are the Advantages of Using the Mid-Day Magic Ticket?

Firstly you don’t have to be up early to get to Disney World. If you enjoy a slow start to your days during a vacation then these may be the ticket options for you.

Also you would have the time to eat a good meal before hitting the Disney World Parks. Eating at Disney World is expensive compared to eating outside of the resort so a big buffet breakfast in Orlando could fill you up ready for an afternoon/evening in the parks where you will probably just need a quick service meal or snack to see you through the day once inside a Disney World Park.

Some of the parks like Epcot might not open until 9 a.m. anyway (depending on the time of year) so you are potentially only losing 3 hours of the park day and with World Showcase at Epcot not fully open until 11 a.m. if that’s your planned destination you’re only losing an hour.

What are the Disadvantages of Using the Mid-Day Magic Ticket?

There is a big and obvious disadvantage of using these half day type tickets. Entering any of the Disney World Parks after 12 p.m. means you are getting in when the crowds have already built up.

You are not going to be able to get on any rides or attractions quickly like you would be able to from rope drop when any of the parks first open. You will have to wait in line and will not see any of the benefits of being in any of the Disney World Parks early.

Also if you plan to enter as soon as you can just after midday then make sure you have eaten as it will be lunch time so restaurants (table or quick service) will be at their busiest. You will have to be prepared for the park of your choice to be busy.

Our Thoughts on Mid-Day Magic Tickets

We as a family wouldn’t use the Mid-Day Magic tickets. As a family that loves Disney World we like to really make the most of our time there. We like to stay at a Disney World Resort and make the most of all the benefits that comes with that vacation package like extra magic hours in the morning and starting most days early.

I have written about the Benefits of Staying at a Disney World Resort which you can read here or by clicking the image below.

The Benefits of Staying at a Disney World Resort Hotel

We have had so many great times in the Disney Parks early in the day getting on rides quickly, meeting characters and having early breakfasts before parks officially open that these new tickets really don’t work for us.

If you are a more casual Disney fan who doesn’t want to be up early or prefers to eat in Orlando first and then hit Disney World then perhaps take a look at the costs of this new ticket option as it may just work for you. For more casual guests you might save some money and might not be worried about getting into the parks later. For others that want to see as much of Disney World as possible then look at other Disney World Ticket options.
