MagicBand+ has just been announced for Disney World Guests visiting the resort in 2022. This new upgraded version of the MagicBand will do everything the old version used to do and then some. Let’s take a look at this new MagicBand offering and see if it will be something you might purchase for your Disney World vacation.

What is MagicBand+ at Disney World
MagicBand+ is a premium offering for Disney World guests that offers the standard MagicBand services (that have been around since 2013) with new interactive elements that can be experienced throughout the Disney World parks.
All of the standard hands-free services for things like park and guest room entry, retail and dining, Disney PhotoPass will still be available. MagicBand+ will retain all those popular features and add functionality that unlocks new moments of magic for you. As you enter a Disney World park, MagicBand+ will come alive at various with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations and gesture recognition at various times. The new MagicBand+ will allow you to engage with favorite Disney moments in new ways, including:
Interactive with Fab 50 Statues
The new MagicBand+ will interact with all the new Fab 50 statues that have been installed throughout all four Disney World parks to celebrate the 50th anniversary. When you come across a Fab 50 statue you MagicBand+ will interact with each one differently.
Interactive with Disney’s Enchantment and Harmonious Shows
The new MagicBand will also interact with Disney World’s new evening shows Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at Epcot. Your band will light up to compliment the lights, fireworks and colors in the sky.
Become a Star Wars Bounty Hunter with MagicBand+
The new band will also allow you to undertake a Bounty Hunter challenge inside Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge where you search for virtual bounties throughout the land.
How Much is MagicBand+ at Disney World
As yet prices are still to be confirmed but with the new bands being launched at the beginning of 2022 expect some updates on prices soon. I would expect the price range to be $40 to $50 for the new bands.
Disney World have confirmed that MagicBand+ will be available for a discounted pre-arrival price for Disney World resort guests and new annual pass holders as well as those renewing annual passes too.
Is MagicBand+ Worth it?
I think MagicBand+ will be worth it if you are already a fan of the MagicBand. If you are spending a lot of time at Disney World and you know you will return to the resort in the future, then it will be a good purchase.
The new MagicBand+ will also make a great memento or souvenir for anyone visiting Disney World during the 50th Anniversary celebrations.
However, if you are not planning to spend a great deal of time at Disney World during your trip to Florida and are staying off property then it probably won’t warrant a purchase for you.
My Plans for MagicBand+
Well, my wife has already said she is going to buy one for our 2022 vacation, but will I? I might do if the discount pre-arrival price is a good offer. If there is a nice Mickey, Haunted Mansion or Star Wars design then yes, I will probably buy one. We will have to wait and see.
It will be interesting to see how popular they are in the parks what with the new MagicMobile service smartphones. I do think they will be popular with the big Disney Fans though. It is however another expense to think about when planning for my next Disney World trip.
