Can You Cancel or Refund Disney World Tickets?

Disney World is one of the most magical and memorable vacation destinations for families and individuals alike. But what happens if you have to cancel or change your plans? Can you get a refund for Disney World tickets? The answer is yes, with some limitations.

Cancelling a Disney World Ticket

If you need to cancel your Disney World ticket, you have a few options. Firstly, it is important to note that all ticket sales are final and non-refundable. However, if you have purchased a non-expired ticket, you can use it at a later date or transfer it to someone else.

In some cases, such as unexpected illness or other circumstances beyond your control, you may be eligible for a refund or credit towards a future visit. In these instances, you will need to contact Disney directly and provide proof of the situation.

Refunds for Disney World Tickets

If you have purchased a ticket but have not yet used it, you may be eligible for a refund under certain circumstances. For example, if you need to cancel your trip due to illness or a death in the family, Disney may offer a refund or credit towards a future visit.

It is important to note that there are strict deadlines for refunds and credits, so be sure to contact Disney as soon as possible if you need to make changes to your plans. Additionally, refunds and credits are subject to a processing fee, so be prepared for some costs if you need to make changes to your Disney World ticket.

Changing Your Disney World Ticket

If you need to change your Disney World ticket, there are a few options available to you. Firstly, you can transfer your ticket to another person, as long as the ticket has not yet been used.

Additionally, you can upgrade your ticket to include additional days or park options. If you need to make changes to your ticket, it is best to contact Disney directly as soon as possible.

Is there an exception to the non-refundable policy for Disney World tickets?

Yes, there is an exception in case of a Hurricane. If the National Hurricane Center issues a warning for the Orlando area or your place of residence within 7 days of your planned arrival, you may be eligible to reschedule or cancel your tickets or vacation package without incurring any cancellation or change fees.

It’s important to note that Disney’s responsibility only covers theme park tickets and vacation packages booked through them for stays at Disney World Resort hotels. For other components of your vacation, such as flights, car rentals, travel insurance, or non-Disney hotels, you will be responsible for any non-refundable purchases or change fees imposed by those providers.

What if I purchased tickets to Disney World but never used them?

If your Disney World tickets are unexpired and have remaining admission days, they will still be valid and can be used during your next visit to Orlando.

If you had purchased tickets with the No Expiration Option, these tickets will be valid for entry to the Disney World theme parks regardless of when they were purchased.

Note: Walt Disney World no longer offers tickets with the No Expiration Option, and all tickets will eventually expire. The expiration date of your ticket can be confirmed by contacting Disney customer service or visiting a theme park.

What if my Disney World ticket has expired?

If you have a fully unused ticket that has expired, you may be able to apply the value of the ticket towards the purchase of a new ticket at the current price. The new ticket must cost at least the same as the original ticket, or more. For example, if you paid $550 for an expired multi-day ticket, you can apply this amount towards a new ticket. If the new ticket costs $ 600, you will pay an additional $ 50 after adjusting the $ 550 from the original ticket. However, if the new ticket costs $ 400, the remaining $ 150 from the original ticket will not be refunded. It’s important to note that this option typically does not apply to special events or separately priced activities.

Disney Vacation Package Cancellation Policy

Disney’s park ticket policy is stringent when it comes to refunds, but they are more flexible when it comes to vacation packages booked through Disney. The amount you’ll lose will depend on how close to the trip you cancel.

According to the Official Disney Cancellation Policy for 2022:

If you cancel 30 days or more before your arrival, you will be refunded the amount paid, minus any cancellation fees charged by third-party hotels or suppliers, non-refundable runDisney race registrations, non-refundable travel protection plan costs, and other amounts owed.

If you cancel 2 days to 29 days before your arrival, you will be refunded the amount paid, minus a $200.00 per package cancellation fee and any cancellation fees charged by third-party hotels or suppliers, non-refundable runDisney race registrations, non-refundable travel protection plan costs, and other amounts owed.

If you cancel 1 day or less before your arrival, or do not show up, the full price of the package is non-refundable.

Please note that no refunds are given for canceled personalized products or experiences, or for unused or partially used admission tickets, options, or features, including meals.

If you booked your vacation package through a third party, you will need to consult them for their cancellation policy and if they offer refunds.

To cancel your Disney World stay, the easiest method, if available, is through the My Disney Experience app or the Walt Disney World website. Look for a cancellation button next to your reservation in the “Reservation” section of the site. If the option is not available, you can call 407-934-7639 and speak directly to a cast member. The fees and amount refunded will depend on when you cancel your trip.

Is it Necessary to Cancel Theme Park Bookings?

If you have altered your ticket start date or decide to cancel your trip, it is advisable to also cancel your Park Reservations. Although it is not a compulsory requirement, holding on to unused reservations hinders other visitors from visiting the parks on that particular day.

Cancelling yourpark reservations would also provide you with the option to reschedule them for a future date instead of them becoming invalid if left unused after the park reservation date.

The process is straightforward, simply visit “My Plans” on the My Disney Experience app or website and click “Cancel Reservation” for each day you have a park booking.
