It does rain in Disney World and a lot of the time a rain storm will pass quite quickly and the Florida sun will dry things up and normal service will resume as if nothing has happened. But sometimes you can just get a rainy day so below you will find our helpful tips for when it’s raining at Disney World.

1. Be Prepared for Rain in Disney World

It rains on average at least 75 days a year in Orlando that means that there is a 20.5% chance that it will rain at Disney World when you are there. The best thing to do is be prepared for rain by using a weather app on your phone or checking the weather forecast on the TV when you are in your room.

Make sure you have appropriate footwear for the wet conditions, hats are good too and have some ponchos packed in your bag. Buy the ponchos before you go as they can be expensive in the parks compared to the prices you find online.

2. Visit Magic Kingdom When It’s Raining at Disney World

Magic Kingdom is quite a good park to visit when it is raining as a lot of attractions and shops are reasonably close to each other, so it is quite easy to get around without getting too wet. There are quite a few show attractions to see too such as the Hall of Presidents, the Enchanted Tiki Rooms and Country Bear Jamboree.

3. Or Visit Future World at Epcot When It’s Raining

Future World at Epcot is also a good place to visit when it is raining as there are a lot of indoor areas close to each other such as the Land and the Seas with Nemo and Friends. There are character meets which are indoors as well as Mouse Gear for shopping and Innoventions too.

4. Shop at Disney Springs

Yes, you will have to dart between stores at Disney Springs, but you don’t need to be outside for very long. There are so many stores at Disney Springs that if you enjoy shopping you can certainly spend a lot of time indoors away from the rain. Of course, there are lots of place to eat too so you can easily spend the best part of a day at Disney Springs if it is a rainy day.

5. Visit the Monorail Resorts When It’s Raining at Disney World

On the Monorail resort loop you have the Polynesian Resort, The Grand Floridian and the Contemporary Resort. You can explore all of these by hopping on the Mono Rail at Magic Kingdom or the Transportation and Ticket Center and staying out of the rain. All these resorts are great to explore and if the weather improves you are just a short mono rail trip from Magic Kingdom or you can jump on another mono rail and head to Epcot.

6. See Some Shows When There’s Rain in Disney World

There are so many indoor shows to see at all the parks that if the rain catches you out you can always see some of them. Yes, some of these maybe busy if it has been raining for a while but most are fairly easy to get into due to the fact that each show can hold a lot of guests. The Hall of Presidents can sit a lot of people as can the Lion King at Animal Kingdom just to name a couple.

7. Resort Hop When It’s Raining

Similar to visiting the Mono Rail Resorts while it is raining can be a good opportunity to see those resorts that you have always wanted to visit but have never got round to. Each Disney World Resort is different with different themes to experience and see as well as the stores and restaurants that each one has to try too. You can have a meal, enjoy a snack or just explore a resort that you might want to stay at in the future.

8. Avoid Animal Kingdom

You may want to avoid Animal Kingdom if there is going to be a lot of rain. For most of the time at this park you will be outdoors, and it isn’t easy to get around the park without being open to the elements. You will get wet at Animal Kingdom when it is raining a lot.

9. Or Brave Animal Kingdom

You could of course go the other way though and brave the rain at Animal Kingdom. Crowd levels may possibly be lower because of the weather giving you the opportunity to get on some attractions easier. This might be especially helpful for getting on the Avatar Rides in Pandora.

10. Stick Out the Rain in the Disney World Parks

When we have been on vacation at Disney World and there has been a lot of rain, we often just try to stick it out. It is only rain; we have ponchos and we are in Disney World so there is still a lot of fun to be had whatever the weather. We aim to make any reservations, enjoy some attractions and dry out a bit during a dining reservation. It could be worse!

11. Make the Most of Your Dining Reservations

Take your time if you have a dining reservation and enjoy the food and drink. If the weather is bad there is no reason to rush, enjoy being in the comfortable surroundings and you never know the weather might have improved by the time you are ready to leave.

12. Don’t Let the Rain in Disney World Get You Down

Don’t let the rain get you down. You can’t do anything about it and you are at the most magical place on Earth. There is so much to do at the parks, resorts and Disney Springs don’t let a little bit of rain get in the way of having some fun.

13. Get Up Late If Rain is Forecast in Disney World

If you know the weather is going to be bad, then perhaps this is the chance to give yourself and your family members a bit of extra time in bed in the morning. Everyone will feel refreshed for it and you all be good to go when the sun does come out. A little rest time especially for children can really pay dividends later in your vacation when the weather is good.

You can also have a relaxing breakfast at your resort. If your kids don’t want to sleep late then go and enjoy a nice breakfast together before you head out to brave the weather. Enjoy some Mickey waffles and family time together before hitting the parks.

15. Enjoy the Rainy-Day Entertainment

On a rainy day in the park you find alternative rainy-day entertainment that you wouldn’t normally see. For example, at Magic Kingdom you will get the Rainy-Day Character Cavalcade when the bad weather means the normal parade is cancelled. You don’t normally get to see some of these so enjoy the rainy-day entertainment while you can.

You might also find that at your resort during bad weather that some characters will appear to entertain guests which can also be a nice distraction when the weather is bad.

16. Other Things That You Could Pay to Do

At Disney Springs you could get tickets to see a film at the AMC Movie Theatre or go Bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes. There is also Experiences for little ones like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique that you could possibly do.

Tips For When It’s Raining at Disney World

You really do have lots of options at Disney World if you do have to deal with a lot of rain. We have had vacations at Disney World when it hasn’t rained at all and others where there have been heavy storms. Take it as it comes, be prepared and more importantly don’t let it stop you or your family from having fun, you are at Disney World at the end of the day.
