You might not have thought about this, but could Disney World offer a Free Disney Genie Plus service? Yes, the new paid system that replaces the old FastPass system has been in the news a lot since it was first announced. Basically, Disney Genie Plus is a paid FastPass system but I honestly think eventually it could be offered for free. Maybe not free to everybody but certainly some guests.
Let’s take a look why I think this could happen.
Will Disney World offer Disney Genie Plus for Free?
I honestly do think that the Disney Genie Plus service could at some point be offered for free as an incentive to secure more on property vacation package bookings. I think this could be an offer that works well for Disney World as previously the FastPass system was free anyway. Surely allowing some groups to have the service for free whilst the remainder still pay is better than letting everybody have the service for free.
Why Disney Could Offer Disney Genie Plus for Free
Disney World could offer Disney Genie Plus for free because at present there aren’t a lot of perks for any guests staying at a Disney World Resort. My prediction is that a free Disney Genie Plus offer could be released for Disney World resort packages similar to what we have seen in the past with the free Disney Dining Plan offers.
Remember pre pandemic if you booked a Disney World vacation at the right time of year you could benefit from:
Free Airport transfers via the Magical Express – Will Be Discontinued on Jan 1, 2022.
Free Disney Dining Plan and ability to make reservations 180 days out from your vacation – Currently not available.
Ability to make FastPass reservations 60 days out – FastPass Plus has been replaced by Disney Genie Plus and Lightning Lanes.
Free MagicBands – Discontinued Jan 2021
Disney World Resort Guests Used to Get Early Access to the FastPass System
Previously when the FastPass system was still in operation anyone staying at a Disney World Resort could book FastPasses 60 days before their vacation. This was 30 days sooner than off property guests. This was a very useful perk and at some point, international guests will be returning to Disney World in the future. To fill those resort rooms perks and offers will be needed. Allowing onsite guests to have free Disney Genie Plus would be a great incentive to keep guests on property. It would also help to keep bookings at the resorts healthy.
Universal Already Offer a Similar Deal to Free Disney Genie Plus
If you stay at a Universal Orlando Deluxe Resort you can get the Universal Express Passes included for free for each night of your stay. This is something I have taken advantage of in the past. I have stayed 2 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel with free Express passes included. This allowed us to ride pretty much everything in both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.
Perhaps Disney could do something similar with moderate or deluxe resort guests in the future. This could be a good offer that works well for Disney World during the less busy times of the year.
Low take Up Could Force a Free Offer
When Disney Genie Plus launches in the fall what happens if there is a low take up? If there is low demand for the new service and that remains the case for some months then a free offer maybe required. One way to sell a service to customers is to offer it for free for a limited period. If the new service is good, then guests might continue to pay to use it in the future.
My only concern with this is that the Disney Genie Plus isn’t that expensive when compared to paying for the Express service at Universal. For small groups paying $15 a day may not seem that bad to get easier access to rides. This might be especially the case for guest visiting Disney World for the first time.
Free Disney Genie Plus in 2023?
Could Disney Genie Plus be offered for free in 2023? 2022 might have been a bit too soon for such a new service but what about 2023? It will be interesting to see what offers are announced for 2023 vacation packages. The next few years certainly will be interesting with Disney World looking to encourage more guests back to the resorts and parks.
