11 Books About Disney World and Walt to Read Before Your Vacation
Here are some examples of books you might want to consider reading before your next Disney trip.
1. Birnbaum’s 2024 Walt Disney World: The Official Guide
This book is the updated official guide that I purchased for our first Disney World Vacation. This guide has an expanded dining guide and cover Disney Cruises too. You will probably either pick this one or the unofficial guide to prep for your vacation to learn some Walt Disney World hacks unless of course you feel ambitious and go for two big reads!
2. The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World 3rd Edition
This book is a very interesting guide to all the secrets and hidden treasures you can find throughout all the four parks at Walt Disney World. A great read for any Disney fan to discover things that you have not noticed before when at Disney World. This is also a great book to take with you so that you can find the secrets that whilst on your vacation.
3. Who Was Walt Disney?
If your children want to learn a bit more about Walt Disney then this book which is part of a series of books is aimed at 8 – 12 year olds.
It is a great way for younger readers to learn about Walt before a trip to Walt Disney World and definitely worth considering for younger members of your vacation party or family.
4. Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide to Walt Disney World’s Best Kept Secrets
Written by Hidden Mickey Guy Steven Barratt this field guide claims to cover every Hidden Mickey. Scavenger hunts are also included covering every Disney Park and the resorts too.
This might definitely be a book to take with you on vacation but it wouldn’t hurt to take a look before you start your Disney Vacation too.
5. Walt Disney: An American Original
This biography was written by Bob Thomas and originally released back in 1976 and is one to read for the adults in your party that want to learn more about Walt Disney and how he started the Walt Disney company and Walt Disney Studios.
A very well known and more highly regarded release of the Walt Disney biographies that many people have read over the years that want to learn a bit more about Walt’s life.
6. Junior Encyclopedia of Animated Characters
A great hardcover book for children covering all the major Disney Animated Characters from A-Z. A great value read that your children can keep going back to learn about all the different characters from Disney animation and Disney films that they might just meet on their upcoming Disney Vacation.
7. Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look at Making More Magic Real
This coffee table book is definitely one for the Disney Collectors out there and it includes concept art, drawings and documents from the imagineers that you would normally not get to see. A great coffee table book that shows you who the Disney Imagineers are, what they do and how they do it. The concept art is fascinating to see.
8. The Hidden Mickeys of Walt Disney World
Like the other previously mentioned Hidden Mickey Book this one is also very well researched but does include images too. A great alternative resource for finding hidden Mickey’s in the Disney theme parks during your vacation.
9. The Walt Disney World That Never Was: Stories Behind the Amazing Imagineering Dreams That Never Came True
This book covers a very interesting subject, the rides and attraction that were planned for Disney World from opening day onwards but only ever existed in the minds of the Imagineers.
Rides, attractions and even resorts and theme parks that never got built are covered in this fascinating read. If only images of the concept art were included this would have made this book really special.
10. Disney Ideas Book: More Than 100 Disney Crafts, Activities and Games
A great book if you enjoy crafting with your children and especially if you have a Disney Vacation on the horizon. There are more than 100 ideas detailed in this book for Disney Inspired crafts, puzzles, games and paper craft.
The step by step instructions are easy to follow and you will quickly be creating all sorts of Disney fun to get you in the mood for your next Disney adventure.
11. The Kingdom Keepers Books (These are Actually a Series of Books)
My Son bought some of these books on our last Disney World Vacation and he really enjoys them. The books follow five teens who by day are holographic hosts in the Disney Parks but by night they must battle the Disney Villains to prevent them from taking control of the Parks.
A very good fantasy series for kids that is also based in the Disney Parks. There are quite a few books to read too once you get started.
