Disney Character Height Requirements To Work For Disney

(Last Updated On: December 13, 2023)

Disney is dedicated to making sure their visitors get the most amazing experience possible, and this starts with actors that, while in costume, believe they really are their character. One way to really get into the role is by fitting the part perfectly, starting with your height. That is why there are very specific Disney Character Height Requirements.

Disney Character Height Requirements

While there are many requirements considered when interviewing to be a Disney cast member at Walt Disney World, your height is one of the most specific.

Because Disney is so invested in making each guest truly feel the magic in their visit, the characters they wave to, take pictures with, and talk to should always look similar from one to the next.

If you meet one Queen Elsa who is 5’3″ and another who is 5’8″, the feeling isn’t the same as it would be if they all looked alike.

This is why you will never see two characters with dramatic height differences; with the few inches given as options, you won’t notice any difference at all.

Working For Disney as a Beloved Character

Working in a Disney theme park is nothing to take lightly; these roles are to be taken just as seriously as any other professional position. Because Disney is dedicated to making each guest experience as magical as possible, each staff member they meet has to play their role perfectly.

Getting Hired

When you go into Disney looking to play a part, do not get your hopes up; you will land the role of your dreams.

Once there, you will have your interview, and if accepted, the Disney staff will assign you a position that is open and where they believe your physical features will fit in best.

In short, don’t go in strongly set on getting the role as Cinderella or Anna and Elsa, because you will be really disappointed when finding out you will be cast as Wendy from Peter Pan or one of the stepsisters.

Weight Requirements

Although this may seem a bit controversial, weight requirements for each character are essential. It isn’t meant to be cruel to any specific body type but is required for the same reason high requirements are; the characters have to look similar to each other and to the person they are playing.

Each costume is costly and designed to fit a specific body type; these costumes cannot be altered or changed, so keeping yourself in shape and staying the size you were when hired is crucial to keeping your position.

Knowing Your Disney Character’s Role

Knowing your character inside and out is another huge requirement Disney has. This means watching the movies over and over, practicing the roles, repeating the lines, and studying the character’s behaviors and traits. You will be questioned and quizzed before ever walking out into the public.

It is crucial you can answer any question asked by fans and guests. You have to talk the way your characters would and move in the same manner.

Meeting the Fairy Godmother at Magic Kingdom

You Have to Be Good at Keeping Secrets

Disney has a strict, no-talk rule about the character you play at the park. For the magic to stay alive, no one can reveal the role they have been cast to play.

So, in a world where social media is so prevalent, you have to have the ability to refrain from selfies in your costumes or revealing the character you dress up as every time you go to work.

This role is very child-specific because they still believe these characters are real and that there is only one of each. If you reveal in any way you are playing a role, you will lose your job.

You Have to be Able to Dance

Now, you don’t have to be a professional dancer to get a part as a Disney character. However, you will be required to learn and perform a simple routine for your audition.

A small dance routine will look similar to the things you see in parades or plays, proving you can move to a rhythm and easily learn simple steps and follow instructions.

Why are the Disney Character Height Requirements so Strict?

The rules and conditions are not only strict for their characters, but this company is also highly secretive in every aspect. They want to keep everything under lock and key to protect the magic and experience their guests are looking for when coming to these resorts.

If the secrets behind characters, rides, and other attractions are revealed, it takes away from the experience of the families that often travel far and wide to feel the excitement of such an enchanted and mesmerizing place.

Disney World also likes to keep things on the down-low because it is such a successful resort, partially due to how they run their company. If things start to leak regarding the happenings from behind the scenes, the competition can begin to take away from the unique experience they provide.
