Can You Bring Bags on Rides at Disney World – 9 Things to Know in 2024

(Last Updated On: April 15, 2024)

A common question from people who are planning their first Disney World Vacation is: can bring bags on rides at Disney World throughout the parks? In this post I’ll cover exactly what you can and can’t do with your backpacks in Disney World.

So can You Take Backpacks on Rides at Disney World?

Yes, you can take your bag or backpack on all Disney World rides. Most rides have a storage pouch for your bag or any loose items. If your bag is too large for the pouch, you can put it on the floor between your feet. This is even the case on thrill rides such as Space Mountain and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

9 Things to Know About Taking Bags on Rides at Disney World

We always seem to have a backpack with us crammed with bits and pieces that we will probably need at some point. Sun tan lotion, hand wipes, sunglasses and ponchos just to name a few items you might be carrying around with you as you explore WDW.

You might spend a day at two or more parks and you might end up at Disney Springs or at a water park or another resort for a meal. Overall you will need to have some type of bag with you to carry whatever items you might need. Below you will find 9 things you need to know when it comes to taking bags on rides at Disney World.

1. Bags on Disney World Roller Coaster Rides

Rides like Space Mountain, Expedition Everest and Rock n Roller Coaster all have mesh type bags attached to the front part of your seat where you can store your bits and pieces so unlike Universal you really don’t need to worry about the constant use of lockers.

2. You Can Even Bring Large Bags on Rides at Disney World

As I mentioned above you think your bag is too large you can place it on the floor and hold it between your feet and this includes Expedition Everest, Space Mountain and Rock n Roller Coaster.

3. Backpacks in Disney World – Bags on Water Rides

You might find that your bag might get wet on Splash Mountain and possibly the drop part of Pirates of the Caribbean but for these rides you can prop your bag under your feet, so it stays off the floor where it does sometimes get a bit wet. There are free lockers near the entrance to Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom and this is the one water ride that it might be wise to consider using the free lockers. It might be wise to do the same with any expensive electronic equipment or smart phones too and store them in the free lockers. I have ridden Kali River Rapids with my iPhone in my pocket and not had a problem, but that is no guarantee.

4. Taking Backpacks on Avatar Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom

Avatar Flight of Passage is a bit of an exception to the rule as you will be riding a banshee. Before you climb on board you will find a storage area located behind you where you can store all your items.

5. Taking Backpacks on Soarin’ Around the World at Epcot

The storage space underneath your seat on Soarin’ Around the World at Epcot can be quite small so if your bag doesn’t quite fit don’t worry as the Cast Members will ask you to leave it on the floor in front of you. Once you are secure in your seat and before the ride starts the cast members will then move your bag to the side where you will be able to collect it once you have finished the ride.

6. What About Strollers in the Parks

So, what about strollers at Disney World? There are lots of areas to park you stroller in the parks. I certainly wouldn’t advise you to leave any bags with your stroller. Disney World is a very magical place, but crime can happen especially if you give people the opportunity. It is always best to be careful.

7. Large Disney World Souvenirs in Your Park Backpack

If you have purchased some larger items, you don’t have to carry them around all day as you can leave the items at the front of each park with Guest Services. You can collect them later in the day which is very useful. If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort you can have the items sent to your resort where you can pick them up on your return at the end of the day.
